Emergency School Shelter at Puthia, Rajshahi
24 February, 2015This transient school structure for S. R. Girls’ High School(Puthia, Rajshahi) was built (June, 2014)to provide much needed shelter for about 150 students of three different classes since the school didn’t have adequate structure to accommodate students. Students had no option but to endure all the climatic harshness. Not to mention class activities had to undergo uncertain halts during rain and storm.
The design scheme capitalized the merits of local makeshift bamboo structures; which is economical, could be built and dismantled within a very short period of time and would offer an emergency shelter for all climatic conditions.
It took two days to construct this whole 75ft x 24ft bamboo frame structure covered of plastic tarpaulin roofing along with plastic curtain to protect interior from driving rain. The built structure successfully ensured uninterrupted classroom activity during monsoon and would continue to serve until any permanent arrangements are made.
