Paper Toy Design Challenge
22 January, 2025Welcome to the Paper Toy Design Challenge! Grow Well Foundation invites creative minds to design and craft unique paper toys that are fun, interactive, and visually appealing. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in both design and craftsmanship, while engaging with the timeless art of paper crafting.
The Grow Well Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhance the growth and development of children by providing access to sustainable, contextually relevant play environments and educational resources. Our core initiatives emphasize collaborative design, cultural inclusivity, and environmental stewardship.
Objectives:
01_ Create an original paper toy that is functional, engaging, and visually striking.
02_ Your design should be easy to assemble, made primarily of paper, and feature a unique, imaginative concept.
03_ The paper toy should be designed for ages 4-10, with a focus on both aesthetic appeal and playability.
Competition Categories:
Cat 1: Traditional Paper Toys: Designs that focus on folding, cutting, and assembling paper in traditional ways (e.g., origami, pop-up designs, paper dolls).
Cat2: Interactive Paper Toys: Toys that incorporate movement, interactivity, or mechanisms (e.g., paper automata, kinetic toys, puzzles).
Cat 3: Themed Paper Toys: A paper toy inspired by a specific theme (e.g., animals, space, fantasy, or nature). This category encourages imaginative interpretations and artistic flair.
Awards:
Grand Prize: BDT 20,000 cash + Featured in an exclusive online outlet + Opportunity to work the professional team (paid).
Runner-Up (2nd Place): BDT 10,000 cash + Certificate+ Featured in an exclusive online outlet + Opportunity to work the professional team (paid).
2nd Runner-Up: BDT 5,000 cash + Certificate+ Featured in an exclusive online outlet + Opportunity to work the professional team (paid).
Honorable Mentions (3nos): Certificates + Featured in an exclusive online outlet + Opportunity to work the professional team (paid).
Eligibility:
Open to all (registration is required). Having a design background is a plus but not mandatory.

Judging Criteria:
- Creativity (25%): How unique and imaginative is your design? Does it stand out as something new or innovative?
- Aesthetic Appeal (25%): How visually engaging is your paper toy? Does it have an appealing design and style?
- Functionality and Playability (25%): Does the toy work as intended? Is it fun, interactive, or engaging?
- Craftsmanship (15%): How well is the toy constructed? Is it neat, durable, and carefully assembled?
- Instructions Clarity (10%): Are the assembly instructions clear and easy to follow?

Registration:
Preregistration is required. Registration is FREE for current students. A registration fee of BDT 200 is applicable for working adults.

Submission Guidelines:
Participants can submit individually or as a team of 2 (max).
This is a two-stage competition. Shortlisted participants in stage 1 are required to submit the prototype toy in stage 2.
Stage 1: Submission of the digital version (via email):
- A video file (mpeg) of the paper toy model showing its functionality/ playability.
- Photographs of the paper model in PDF/ JPG/ PNG format.
- 2d drawings (PDF/ JPG/ PNG format) including the step-by-step assembly instructions or diagrams, demonstrating how it can be assembled, used, or interacted with.
- A text file (200-300 words) outlining the toy category, target age group, and how your design meets the competition objectives. The text file also contains the participant’s full name and contact details.

Stage 2: Prototype submission (via postal delivery):
Shortlisted participants will be communicated by email and required to submit the prototype model of actual size and material by post or in person.
Additional Information:
All designs must be original. Plagiarism will result in disqualification.
By entering, you grant the competition organizers permission to feature your design in marketing materials, websites, and other promotional content.
