The Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Emerging Technologies is envisioned as a landmark institution that embodies Bangladesh’s ambition to emerge as a leading participant in the global technological landscape. Initiated by the ICT Division of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the project proposes a platform dedicated to innovation, advanced technological development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Located in Sector-21 of Purbachal New Town, Narayanganj, the institute occupies a strategically planned four-acre site within one of the country’s most significant emerging urban districts, reinforcing its identity as a catalyst for the future growth of Smart Bangladesh.

In an era shaped by the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence, robotics, automation, and digital systems, nations are increasingly investing in research infrastructure capable of generating innovation and technological self-reliance. Bangladesh, with its young population, expanding digital capacity, and growing technological aspirations, stands at a critical turning point where the establishment of a dedicated research institution has become both timely and necessary. To meet this need, the project brings research, education, experimentation, entrepreneurship, and public engagement together under one roof.

The institute is conceived not merely as a research facility, but as a dynamic platform for knowledge production and technological transformation. The spatial organization is structured around four interconnected functional domains: Research & Testing, Academic & Education, Innovation & Outreach, and Administration. Advanced research facilities include high-bay robotics laboratories, computational research suites, machine learning and data science labs, VR/AR visualization spaces, fabrication workshops, and secure data center infrastructure. These spaces are designed with adaptability and modularity to accommodate the continuously evolving nature of emerging technologies and future research requirements. Simultaneously, the academic component incorporates active learning classrooms, student project labs, seminar spaces, and collaborative environments that encourage interdisciplinary learning and intellectual exchange.

A major emphasis of the project lies in fostering interaction between technology and society. Public-oriented spaces such as exhibition galleries, startup incubators, multipurpose halls, cafés, and collaborative commons are integrated into the architectural composition to promote innovation culture and public accessibility. The design encourages meaningful interaction among researchers, students, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and visitors, transforming the institute into an open platform for dialogue, creativity, and collective progress.

Architecturally, the project seeks to express a contemporary identity rooted in innovation, transparency, and connectivity. The design language reflects the precision and dynamism of technological advancement while maintaining a human-centered spatial experience. Openness, visual continuity, and layered spatial relationships are used to create an environment that inspires exploration, collaboration, and discovery. At the same time, the project carefully addresses the climatic and environmental conditions of Bangladesh through passive and sustainable design strategies. Building orientation, shaded facades, natural daylight integration, thermal responsiveness, and energy-efficient planning are incorporated to enhance environmental performance and user comfort while minimizing operational impact.

Beyond its functional role, the institute is envisioned as a national symbol of progress and aspiration — a physical manifestation of Bangladesh’s transition toward a technologically empowered future. It represents a vision where architecture becomes more than shelter; it becomes an active participant in innovation, learning, and social advancement. Through the integration of advanced research infrastructure, sustainable design principles, and collaborative public spaces, the Research & Development Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Emerging Technologies aspires to become a pioneering center of excellence that positions Bangladesh confidently within the evolving global discourse of technology and innovation.
